INTERNSHIP PHASE 1
WEEKLY REFLECTION
15/7/2025 TO 18/7/2025
Tuesday to Friday
This week of my school internship was a meaningful and enriching experience that helped me understand the practical aspects of teaching, classroom management, and school functioning. Each day provided new learning opportunities, and I was able to observe, assist, and participate in various activities within the school environment.
At the beginning of the week, I took part in the morning assembly duties where I helped maintain discipline and guided students to line up properly. This experience helped me understand the importance of setting the tone for the rest of the school day. I also observed the roles carried out by teachers during assembly and recognised how it contributes to students’ moral development and school discipline.
Throughout the week, I attended and observed several classes handled by different subject teachers. These observations helped me analyse various teaching styles, classroom interactions, strategies for learner engagement, and methods used to maintain attention and discipline. I noted how experienced teachers used questioning techniques, examples from daily life, and motivational statements to ensure meaningful learning.
I was also given substitution periods where I interacted with students, maintained classroom order, and helped them with their classwork. These periods improved my confidence in managing a classroom independently. I learned how to handle mixed-ability learners and how to provide individual support when needed.
During the teaching practice sessions, I taught social lessons to different classes. I followed the lesson plan structure—Introduction, Presentation, Interaction, and Consolidation. Students responded positively, and their active participation encouraged me. I used simple examples, writing activities, and brief discussions to make the lesson interesting and understandable. Through this, I realised the importance of using clear instruction, maintaining eye contact, and giving immediate feedback.
I also became familiar with the school environment, staff cooperation, timetable adjustments, and the importance of punctuality and responsibility. I learned to adapt quickly to sudden changes like substitution duties and unexpected schedule shifts.
Overall, this week strengthened my teaching skills, classroom presence, and understanding of school culture. It gave me confidence to handle students better and inspired me to improve my instructional methods further. This experience helped me grow both personally and professionally and prepared me for the upcoming weeks of my practice
